From
2009, the UK Government will require Advanced Passenger Information for
all passengers travelling internationally into and out of the UK. This
is being rolled out over the coming year.
Advance
Passenger Information means providing certain information to the
authorities before passengers travel, such as passport details and,
where necessary, contact information.
Currently
Advance Passenger Information is required for travel to and from the
following countries before their flight:
Bermuda
Canada
Caribbean
China
India
Japan
Kenya
Mexico
Spain
South
Africa
Thailand
United
Arab Emirates
USA
Additionally,
from 4 March 2009, there will be a requirement in the UK to provide
Advance Passenger Information when travelling to and from:
Malta
Turkey
Below is a list of the information required:
Full
given names
Surname
Gender
Nationality
Date
of birth
Travel
document number e.g. passport number
Travel
document expiry date
Travel
document country of issue
Staff
at check-in desks will be able to collect API data but passengers are
strongly advised to supply the information prior to arrival at the
airport or at a check-in kiosk where available, providing they hold a
machine readable passport.
USA Visa
Regulations
Regarding
entry into the United States: The Department of Homeland Security has
introduced a new policy which will be enforced as of 12 January 2009.
Please inform all of your clients about this new policy that will
affect any travel involving entering/stopping in the United States
(flights, cruises, etc).
All foreign nationals from any of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP)*
nations must obtain an electronic travel authorisation before arriving
in the United States through the ESTA system (Electronic System for
Travel Authorization). Visit https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov to view
participating countries and fill out the form.
Clients will then receive one of the following results:
* Authorised
* Not Authorised: in this case the passenger must obtain
authorisation through an Embassy or Consulate before departing for the
United States.
* Pending Authorisation: the passenger must check the ESTA website
over the following 72 hours.
Once the trip is authorised, passengers receive an authorisation ID
number that will be required at airport check-in or upon arrival at a
port.
Passengers are responsible for submitting their ESTA application and
obtaining approval to travel to the United States. VWP CLIENTS WHO
DON'T OBTAIN ESTA APPROVAL WILL LOSE ALL RIGHT TO OBTAIN A REFUND FOR
THE HOLIDAY THEY HAVE BOOKED.
Additional Information:
* Requests to travel to the United States approved by ESTA are
valid: for a period of up to 2 years or until the passenger's passport
has expired for multiple entries
* Requests, even when approved, do not guarantee entry into the
United States: ESTA approvals only authorise passengers to make the
journey to the United States under the terms and conditions of the VWP
program (please see www.cbp.gov/travel for more
information).
Minors can participate in the VWP program only if they have an
individual passport. Registration in parent's passport or passes will
not be accepted.
